SEC Post-Spring Power Rankings - #14 - Kentucky

0 Views 0 Comments

The Wildcats made some strides in their first season under new head coach Mike Stoops.  The Wildcats were one of the least talented teams in the SEC last season in terms of speed and athleticism and that led to a 2-10 record and an 0-8 mark in the SEC.  The Wildcats scored a total of only 118 points in SEC games and gave up the second most (291) in SEC games.

However, in 2014 the Wildccats have a major influx of talent on the way to Lexington.  On the offensive side of the ball the Wildcats are getting a huge boost at QB with Drew Barker's arrival.  He has the most potential of any Kentucky QB since Tim Couch.  Then, adding the likes of Mikel Horton, Thaddeus Snodgrass, T.V. Williams and Stanley Williams at the skill positions will be a big time boost.  Also, adding Matt Elam, Cory Johnson, Denzel Ware, Dorian Hendrix, Kendall Randolph and Darius West will all likely play significant snaps as true freshmen.  Matt Elam has the potential to be a big time game changer on the defensive side of the ball with his monsterous size that will command double teams.

These talented freshmen are part of the solution in the future for the Wildcats but in the 2014 season the Wildcats are going to be too dependent on this young talent.  The freshmen will strugggle this season but this baptism by fire will only help in the future.

Be patient with this team Kentucky fans fans and your patience may very well be rewarded.
